Less than 10 miles roundtrip, the Duck Lake Basin in Mammoth Lakes makes a great short weekend backpacking trip.  It can easily be done as a day hike, but turning it into an overnight backpacking trip is the perfect way to experience the alpenglow on the surrounding mountain ranges and the serenity of the multiple lakes in the basin.

This Adventure will begin on SATURDAY morning around 6am as we caravan from Los Angeles to our starting point at the Duck Pass trailhead in Mammoth Lakes, which sits at an elevation of 9,157 ft.  We will be camping at Coldwater Campground and gearing up for our adventure Saturday night with dinner and a campfire. 

On SUNDAY we will enjoy breakfast before packing our day packs for a venture to Duck Lake with passes by several lakes along the way where we will explore and hang out.  Upon reaching Duck Lake we’ll setup camp and explore a little bit of the amazing views before settling in for the night with dinner and a fire if suitable.  

On MONDAY we will enjoy a relaxing morning and breakfast before packing up and venturing the 3 miles (all downhill) back to our starting point and will make the return trip to Los Angeles with another amazing adventure in the books!

Refund Policy

If you cancel 91 days or more prior to the start of the trip, you will receive a full refund of your registration fee less a $10.00 administrative processing fee.

If you cancel 61- 90 days prior to the start of the trip you will receive 75% of your registration back. 

If you cancel 31- 60 days prior to the start of the trip you will receive 50% of your registration back. 

If you cancel 30 days or less from the start of the trip you will not be able to receive a refund. 

***At any time within 90 days prior to the start of the trip, you may receive a full refund if you find a substitute to take your place***

Itinerary

Day 1

This Adventure will begin on Saturday morning around 6am as we caravan from Los Angeles to our starting point at the Duck Pass trailhead in Mammoth Lakes, which sits at an elevation of 9,157 ft.   Upon arrival at the Coldwater Campground we’ll setup camp for the night and explore the area before settling in for dinner and a campfire.

Day 2

On Sunday we will enjoy breakfast before packing our stuff for our venture on Duck Pass to Duck Lake with several bypasses of various lakes to explore.  When we reach Duck Lake we will explore and enjoy the amazing views of the mountain ranges and the Duck Lake basin.  We’ll find a place to setup camp and settle in for the night with dinner and fire if suitable.

Day 3

On Monday we will enjoy a relaxing morning and breakfast before packing up and venturing the 3 miles (all downhill) back to our starting point and will make the return trip to Los Angeles with another amazing adventure in the books!
